Zia Ahari is a retired orthopedic surgeon. He was born to a landowner family in the town of Ahar in Iran. He received his education in Iran followed by specialist training in the UK. He has lived an adventurous life and has survived a world war, two revolutions, and extinction of a 2,500-year-old Monarchy. He has worked and lived in three different continents and sailed over two oceans, one of them single-handed. He has been through several critical, life-threatening situations and here he tells the story of his adventurous life. In his first book, he describes his single-handed sailing adventure on a small sailing boat from Sweden to the United States. Telling the story of his life a sailor friend asked him to write the narrative. The friend threatened to come and haunt him if he did not read the book in his lifetime. The book is full of various adventures written as truthfully as possible. Zia is a competent horseman, an all-round skier, and an experienced blue water sailor. He speaks four languages fluently. Has proved to be a successful immigrant. Earlier in his life, as well as in his old age, he has never shied away from accepting voluntary assignments. Since he has immigrated to America, he has been elected to the prestigious sailing club, the Cruising Club of America. In the CCA, he has served as a member of the Board of Governors, head of the San Francisco Station of the CCA . He also has served as a member of the Board of Governors of Bunnel Cove Foundation: a charity organization dedicated to the environment of the oceans and propagation and preservation of Sailing. Zia, with his wife Farideh and there girl "Athesa" live in San Rafael, California.
